Origins and Backstory: This was originally bred by @motiv303_. We traded some seed at the time and I was given many crosses he made by reversing the U Dub cut. I then gave these seeds to a friend of mine, who was a first-time grower. They grew these seeds outdoors, just outside of Denver in organic soil. I walked them through the drying/curing process and the flower turned out to be pretty high-quality!
U Dub is a famed older clone named affectionately after the University of Washington. It was ostensibly bred in Seattle, WA in the ‘80s and became a local staple. The plant is known for being a hashplant, and after many years of being assumed extinct, the cultivar resurfaced and was subsequently bred by many seed producers.
Motiv303 reversed this plant and put the pollen on many of his elite clones. The Lemon Larry OG was one of them. LLOG is reportedly a cross of an OG Kush clone and SFV OG Kush from the Cali Connection. The Cali Connection is one of the more controversial seed companies I know of, and I can only take the info on LLOG at face value.
Appearance: Stout green buds grow on small, bushy, classic broad leaf frames. This is classic broad leaf bud, and I think the U Dub comes through strongly. The buds are highly dense and even more resinous; this is undoubtedly a hashplant. Even the leaves close to the bud are noticeably more broad than other flowers (at least in person), and are coated with huge-glanded trichomes. The resin production is excellent. Leaf tips are occasionally purple, offering nice accents to the flowers underneath.
Aroma: Overall, a fruity and slightly tropical hashy aroma, LLOGxUDub is dominated by mango, guava, and papaya tones. There are heavy notes of hash and kief as well. There is a bit of skunkiness too, something akin to one of the skunkier/funkier hop varieties out there. That is more or less all there is to the aroma—there are the fruity tones, mostly mango, and some hash. It is certainly not unenjoyable, but it is something I have experienced in cannabis many times.
Flavor: A translation of the aroma, the flavor is a mostly fruity and herbal flavor with equally-heavy hash and kief coming through. For the uninitiated, “hash” as an aroma is a sort of musty, spicy aroma that borders on smelling “dusty.” This weed tastes like that next to mango/papaya. Again, this is fairly unremarkable weed as far as flavor goes, but it definitely isn’t bad either.
Effects: This is classic broadleaf smoke. This is relaxing and anxiolytic weed, making me generally care less about most things. It comes on like a Cadillac in idle—it is slow, smooth, steady, and one senses the power. The creeping effect is very mellowing, and really relieves my social (and other) anxieties. This isn’t face-meltingly strong, but it is strong enough that the real stoners won’t need to reach for a jar of OG after they smoke this. All in all, this is like a good, average, indica smoke. It comes on slow, smooth, and steady, and is strong enough to satisfy the THC craving of almost anyone. It isn’t overly sleepy, and is really versatile weed to be smoked on all kinds of occasions.
Overall: This is extremely resinous weed, probably excellent for extractions. It is very easy to grow, requiring few inputs, water, or general care. This weed was grown by basically putting it outside in some soil with regular watering, and the resin production really couldn’t have been better. That being said, I do think that the aroma and flavor are both fairly basic and generic. The effects are enjoyable and versatile, but also quite generic—because of this, I do find myself smoking my other weeds a lot more often. I don’t have anything bad to say about this weed, but the only standout trait about this strain is probably the resin production. Beginners looking to make dry sift or water extractions might want to grow this one, as it is almost guaranteed they’ll have quite a bit of resin to play with at harvest.
